Remember our Troops on the Fourth of July

http://booksforsoldiers.com/

The Fourth of July has always been my favorite holiday, closely followed by Thanksgiving.  It is a time to celebrate American independence and remember the challenges, struggles and achievements of our 235 year old nation.  Many of these struggles fell on the shoulders of our citizen soldiers and they have never failed to answer the call.

While we enjoy a picnic at the beach, fireworks over our cities, and a barbeque in the backyard, let's take a moment to remember our fellow citizens stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan and in military bases around the world.

"Books for Soldiers" accepts donations of books (preferably softcover), magazines and dvds, which they distribute to soldiers stationed overseas.  Think of a soldier far from home and how good it feels to receive a package.  Something so small, like receiving a copy of "Sports Illustrated" or the latest John Grisham novel, can mean a lot to an American soldier on the other side of the globe.  It lets him or her know that they are in our thoughts and prayers, and we anxiously await their return home, safe and sound.

I encourage all of you to click on the link above, and see if you can find something on your bookshelves and dvd cabinets, you can share with our men and women in uniform.

Thanks so much.  Happy Independence Day, America!

P.S.  - If you are in Washington DC, please take the time to visit the Women in the Military Memorial at Arlington.  It is a museum dedicated to American women who have served our country in a military capacity from World War I through today.  Check out their website for more information:   http://www.womensmemorial.org/About/welcome.html
